*Dances around merrily*

I've now been going out with Josh for 9 months, and it couldn't be better. That boy is fantastic. I love him to bits.

Okay, back to my various pieces of work. I've only got 3 due this week, plus an essay to work on, another bit next week.... Gah, it just keeps going.

Brilliant

Just went through my payments from Cake it Away, and realised that my boss has probably underpaid me about $200. Not very impressed, but he's pretty vague and I think it's just a misunderstanding. So I'll try and get it fixed up soon.

Also (gosh, it's a great day eh) had a hunt around for my Toys R Us group certificate to do my tax, and found that I must have thrown it out when I was cleaning my room. The blasted thing looked like my payroll slips, so I must have just let it get caught up with them. I'm trying to get another, hope I can...

Hopefully this day will improve..... it's not been the best so far....

Various things.

Okay, I've got a few things to talk about today. Some recent, some not. Firstly, the lunar eclipse was last week (wasn't it? ... I'm so out of date). Anyway, it was awesome. Red moons look pretty creepy. You can see how old civilisations would get creeped out by them eh. We had a very clear sky in Canberra for it fortunately, so it was great

Something that's been getting on my nerves for some time now:
I recently heard of yet another community who is having to do fund raising to get a much required life support machine for babies at the local hospital. Our government is able to spend 500 milion taxpayer dollars on the stupid APEC conference, yet they can't get a bloody life support machine. That is, quite honestly, disgusting.

I'm getting so fed up with our government. There's just so much wrong with it.

For example, our PM has increadibly strong religious views. This interferes with so much of what they might decide. Like their choice on not allowing gay marriages. The only reason they're against it is because they allow religious personal views cloud judgement. I hate that. Our 'leaders' (and I use the term loosely) are only concerned with being elected, and the three years they are there for are spent trying to be re-elected. No changes happen, it's stupid. Also, when the parties draw up a proposal of what they're going to do if elected, they're supposed to do different things to the other party. So even if you don't like half of what the party is doing, you are stuck with it because they'll do it.

GRRRRRRR

In other news:
Found some good cheap accomodation in LA. So that's a bonus.

And it's less than a month till Nat Jam WOOOHOOOOOOOO

Also, I just got 5 new lenses from my dad for my camera. They were from when he had an SLR, so now I get to have them ^^ That makes me super dooper happy.

Hope you're all well,

Hef

General info about not much

You know, there are so many parts of my body that I would have replaced with newer better bits. Not because I don't like the way they look but because they give me pain.

The current parts are:
shoulder

back

uterus

neck

hip

throat

But I bet, that even if all those sorted out, my body would find some new way of torturing me. I swear the damn thing is against me big time!

OOO! Good news, Josh got his lappy yesterday. It's so awesome. Hooray for laptops!!! How we love you all.

2 out of 6 assessment pieces down this week.

Thoughts

Not that much to write about really, just thought I'd do a quick entry, put a few thoughts down.

- Almost break time! It'll be a great chance to churn through some work. I think I might write all my Jap jounals, and get them out of the way. Also got to write an essay, and read all my psychology notes. Shouldn't be too hard I don't reckon.

- Josh is the best thing to happen to me. That boy is fantastic, I don't know what I'd do without him. If I'm ever feeling stressed it only takes one quick phonecall to settle me back down again.

- Nightwish still kicks ass, man I love that band. But I think my other fave band at the moment would have to be Disarmonia Mundi. They're a Swedish metal band, they have some funky songs. The cool bit is though there's only about 3 guys in it, and one of them does about 4 instruments/vocals. This makes them very cool, but unfortunately makes the chance of a tour next to zero.

- Still saving up money for my Canada trip, but I haven't been paid for any of my Cake it Away shifts yet. Got about 32 hours I've done there and haven't been paid for I think. Getting a little annoyed.... but I'm sure it'll come through in the next few days, if not I'll start getting cross, not that I ever really get a chance to see my boss though....

- My parents and brother will be away this weekend, so that means I get to have Josh stay here! Hooray!! ^^

- Trying to start my training back up again but I keep getting sick. I reckon I've had 3 colds back to back now. It's megally sucks, particularly because I want to get onto this team!!! >< I want to be well again!!!!!

- Might be going to the snow again weekend after this coming one. I've already been once to try snowboarding, and can't wait to have another shot. It'd be great fun to do it again before I go to Canada. Snowboarding is great, so much cooler than skiiing once you get the hang of it. What I love is that the snowboarding equivellent of snowplow is so easy! Your legs don't kill you the day after because all you do is lean back into the hill a little more. I was slowly getting the hang of turning towards the end of that day too, but because we didn't buy tickets it became less attractive to walk up the hill again.

Alright, time to get back into my study, see you all later!

Free Speech ... actually

Right now I'm going to talk about free speech a little. The concept of it, my perception of it and how I find its applications.

In  Australia we believe in the right to free speech. This should mean that we have the right to listen to others, respect their opinions and respond accordingly. Obviously this shouldn't include personal offensive attacks.

I see very little of this. Among many people in my immediate culture the right for free speech is limited to topics that are almost socially approved. The moment you step outside those limits and state and opinion people take up arms and attack. Is this really the way to lead a proper society? No wonder issues like Aboriginal rights, weight issues, or Australian troops commiting war crimes, are just swept under the carpet. Those things need to be talked about in order to make a change. Anything considered a difficult topic, even slightly so, is not discussed. This limits education, and causes misconceptions and even intensifies the problem further.

Even making a small mistake is considered bad, so not making one is the first aim all the time, and people won't speak up in the risk of making these small mistakes.

The other day I posted a small thing about my perception of obesity and government funding to help those that I see as being less deserving than others. Some people gave me an interesting response (mostly...) allowing me to reflect on things I'd said and perhaps change my mind. Others however just abused me personally.

Instead of perhaps correcting me politely on things I said which could be taken offensively (and I admit there were some, I'm not perfect) they bluntly called me names, and stooped lower than the level that they were objecting to themselves. So instead of correcting me and allowing me to change for the better they left me with my opinions PLUS the concept that I'm more mature than them and right, when in fact I wasn't in some cases. Is this really the way to help spread knowledge?

These abusive people assumed that they were more knowledgable than me, and therefore older (yeah, a good stance to take <-note sarcasm), more mature (ditto), and have the right to attack me. Well who's the mature one now? Probably not the one abusing other members on a simple matter of misinformation.....

If this were a discussion in class and a topic in class came up, and I were to make a statement that you know to be false, would you:
a) Correct the mistake politely, allowing others to learn from your knowledge
b) Scoff and act superior to all those in the room, allowing others to think you're an ass

c) Abuse them, allowing them to learn nothing AND think you're an ass

d) Stay quiet

Why is the internet much different? I won't hold back any opinion in real life that I would express in a blog, or in a message client. It's my opinion, and I'm not ashamed of it. Becuase I want to learn, and help others do the same.

So all those who managed to find my previous post (interesting how so many people read it, yet hardly any visit the rest of the time. Do you all just hunt around for those sorts of topics?) what do you think about this? I honestly want to know.

And I was told that posting something just to get replies (or in my mind, get them thinking. I don't give a crap about replies) is pathetic. Well how is posting something contraversial, and meaningful pathetic, yet posting about my sex life, or new car somehow meaningful?

Hope that made you think, and if not I hope you learn some other way.

Free speach

Okay, due to my previous post I have come up with another topic to talk about. I'll get it done after my lecture.

The idea will be free speach, and whatever that leads me into.

See you there!

Oh what's that? A rant? DAMN STRAIGHT!

Yes, it's time once again for another of Heffer's rants. Well, this is actually the first one, but I've ranted before.

Today's topic is:

FAT PEOPLE

Yes, they exist and they piss me off.

I was watchign today tonight (what a silly idea that was) and they were talking about this procedure that helps fat people lose weight. And I'm talking fat, enormous, horrifingly captivating masses of people. They are gross.

Now, this procedure costs about 12,000 for the person if they don't have health insurance, 4, 000 if they do and they get a medibank subsidation of 1,000. Now, the bit I'm angry about is the subsidising. It shouldn't be allowed. We shouldn't be allowing our tax money to go to people so they can get surgery that they need because they're fat lazy slobs.

We currently have children in NT who are being sponsored through World Vision. That's right, we have children who are seen to be in just as poor conditions as those in Africa. We have parts of our country that are third world. Yet our government pats itself on the back about how well it's doing, pretends our country is fantastic, and gives money to fat people.

This has to stop! We have to stop the money going to people who don't deserve it. Being fat is a lifestyle choice. Deal with it. I don't get subsidation for going running or going in compertitions. Why not? Because it's not a health risk. My lifestyle choice allows me to stay healthy, yet the fat lazy bastards are getting money to help them with their life.

Well, actually I suppose they're getting money to help them change their life. But I wouldn't get help to buy extra shit food, and sit around all day gaining weight.

And I can't stand these "big is beautiful" campaigns. Sure, beign a rake isn't good, but neither is being fat. I'm sorry, I know you all want to be thin (and yes there is a healthy weight, I don't mind a bit of fat at all) but pretending that it's okay to be huge is not good. Being fat is not attractive to the vast majority of our society so pretending that it is, is really stupid.

That's all for now, I must go.

Everything else is going well, ranting is fun.

See you!

Heather
